As part of the expansion project of the NTA, the establishment of NTA Ado-Ekiti was approved along with other 39 stations in October 2000. Mr. Suleiman Fatoba was saddled with the responsibility of establishing the station when he was appointed as the pioneer General Manager in 2000.
A temporary office for the station at Oke Ila Housing Estate was provided by the state government while the construction works at studio complex along New Iyin/ Ilawe Road was ongoing.

On Saturday 22nd March, 2003, the station was commissioned by the president and commander in chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, with the pageantry. More staff were deployed to the station and the staff strength rose from five(5) to fourteen (14) on the day of commissioning.
The station began transmission of programmes on very high frequency Channel 5 on frequency 175.25MHZ at a full output power of 5KW vision and 500W sound right away from the commissioning day.

At the commencement, daily hours of transmission was 8 (Eight) hours, it increased later to 12 (twelve) hours. The station has consistently been on air right from inception without major break in transmission up to date. It has been informing, educating and entertaining the people of the state, and has also projected the state to the whole world through the programmes sent to “Network news (People and Culture)” and Ikanni Odua.

A total of 11 (eleven) General Managers including the present one have served since Inception.

Television Started In Nigeria In 1959 As WNTV Ibadan

The Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) is the National Television Network, for the people of Nigeria. It’s key function is to provide independent and impartial television broadcasting for general reception in the interest of Nigeria. No other television station in Nigeria is charged with the same social responsibility of public interest broadcasting. Accordingly, the NTA seeks to serve as a tool for national integration.

With only ten stations at it’s inception in 1977, the NTA has grown rapidly from 30 stations in 1999 to 101, following the decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria to further expand television services in the year 2002 for wider reception, especially to the rural areas. With his development, NTA can be said to be the largest network in Africa.
