Offlink is an experimental offline friend finder that uses Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networking instead of mobile data, Wi-Fi or cloud servers.

Whether you're at a festival, sporting event, convention, campsite or anywhere mobile networks become overloaded, Offlink helps nearby friends stay connected by relaying location updates between devices.

Unlike traditional location sharing apps, Offlink is designed to work entirely offline.

HOW IT WORKS

Devices running Offlink communicate directly over Bluetooth Low Energy.

When another Offlink device is nearby, it can relay location information across the mesh, allowing friends to stay connected even when they are outside direct Bluetooth range.

As more people run Offlink, the mesh network becomes stronger and more resilient.

PRIVACY

Offlink is designed with privacy in mind.

• Data is exchanged directly between participating devices

PERMISSIONS

Bluetooth permissions are required to discover nearby devices and exchange mesh data.

Location permission is required to determine your position for friend location sharing and, on some Android versions, to support Bluetooth scanning.

Camera permission is used only for scanning friend QR codes.

Offlink is an experimental project under active development. Features and performance will continue to improve as the mesh networking engine evolves.
