Shut the Box & Liar's Dice GAME

Nine Down puts Shut the Box and Liar's Dice, two classic dice games, in one wooden box. Play offline against a fair computer or pass the phone round, with the exact chance of every move one tap away.

No real money, no gambling: just for fun.

The table stays clear while you play: no ads mid-round, no timers.

Shut the Box: knock every tile down
Roll the dice, then knock down open tiles that add up to the roll. Keep going until every tile is down or nothing fits. Whatever still stands is your score, and lower is better. Shut all nine and the walnut lid swings closed over the box. It is the old kitchen-table dice game (some call it close the box), played on green felt with maple tiles.

The chances of every move
Tap Hint to see each legal move with its exact chance of shutting the box and the points it leaves on average. When someone has already posted a score this round, it shows your chance of beating it. Before each roll you can see your chance to shut from where you stand.

Liar's Dice: bid, bluff, call
Everyone shakes a cup of dice in secret. Bid on how many of one face lie on the whole table, raise or bluff, and call "Liar!" when a bid sounds too high, or "Spot on" when you think it is exact. The chance that the last bid holds, counted from your own cup, is one glance away. Wild ones, spot on and 3 to 5 dice per cup are house rules you can switch. Some tables know this bluffing dice game as dudo.

A computer that never peeks
Pick 1 to 3 Liar's Dice opponents: Casual, Bold or Sharp. They decide from their own cup and the bids, and never see under yours. In Shut the Box, Casual shuts any tiles that fit, Greedy drops the biggest, and Sharp plays by the exact chances for every position. Every player rolls the same fair dice you do.

Pass & play on one phone
2 to 4 people can share one phone in both dice games, with a hand-off screen between turns. In Liar's Dice your cup lifts only while you hold it.

Shut the Box house rules
Play with 9, 10 or 12 tiles. Shut any tiles that add up, or only the total or each die. Roll one die when 6 or less is left, choose one die or two once every tile from 7 up is down, or always roll two. Score by points, by reading the tiles left as one number, or golf-style over every round. Changed your mind? Undo your last shut until you roll again.

Daily challenge, stats and 14 achievements
Three boxes and the same dice for everyone on the same day. Keep a streak and look back over your last 14 days. Stats put your shut rate next to perfect play, and three achievements open a new wooden table.

Unhurried
The computer can move calmly, normally or briskly, and quick dice land at once. Hold Roll to rattle the dice before you throw. Sound has its own switch on the table and stays quiet while your phone is on silent. Light and dark themes, four table styles and four languages: English, Deutsch, Français, Español.

Where the ads go
Banners sit only on the menu and on the match result. Full-screen ads wait until a match is over: none in your first three matches, then no more than one every three minutes. Rewarded ads run only when you tap for one, for a daily re-roll or a table style. Ads are limited to general-audience content and start muted when the game's sound is off.

Single player or pass and play
Play Shut the Box single player, or pass and play with friends on one phone. Liar's Dice works offline too, against one to three computer opponents. Both dice games need no connection.

Everything stays on your phone and every game plays offline, so Nine Down is ready on a train, on a plane or at the kitchen table.
