Alpine : Local Linux Server APP
The app downloads an Alpine Linux userland on first setup and runs it with PRoot. Internet access is needed for setup and for downloading software. Linux programs and packages run in the Alpine environment; Android compatibility and performance vary by device and software.
Use Alpine's APK package tools, manage global npm packages, and install Python packages in an app-managed virtual environment. Package availability, dependencies, and compatibility depend on their upstream repositories.
Create projects, browse and edit their files, start or stop processes, and inspect logs and resource use. A foreground service can keep the Linux runtime and local services active while the app is in the background. Optional settings support start-on-boot and scheduled jobs; Android may limit background execution and notifications.
The app can also run an MCP server for compatible clients on the device or local network. Connections use app-configured authentication and permissions. The phone-only/local-network choice controls MCP access only; project processes manage their own network listeners. Check a project's listener settings before making a service available to other devices. MCP features depend on the client and tools you connect.
The app is intended for command-line learning and mobile development workflows. It supports Android 8.0 (API level 26) and later. This is an Android-hosted Linux environment, so it does not provide every feature or hardware access available on a desktop Linux system.
