Changa Ashtha Pai GAME
Changa Ashtha Pai — also known as Ashta Chamma and Chowka Bara — is played on a 5 × 5 board with
four cowrie shells. Race all four of your gotis round the outer ring, into the inner ring and home
to the centre before anyone else.
HOW IT PLAYS
• Cast four cowries: the face-up count is your move, and all face-down is 8.
• A 4 or an 8 earns another throw — so does a kill, and so does reaching the centre.
• Open a goti from home only with a 1, 4 or 8.
• Kill a rival goti to earn your way into the inner ring. Until then, keep circling.
• Crossed squares are safe. Two of your gotis together form a pair that cannot be killed.
• Hold several throws and play them in any order, on any goti.
• The game plays on after the winner — race for 2nd and 3rd, and don't be last.
