The game takes place in a space-themed setting in which players each take on one of two roles most being Crewmates and a predetermined number of players being Impostors. The goal for the Crewmates is to complete tasks around the map and to identify and vote out any Impostors among them. The Impostors' goal is to kill as many Crewmates as possible without being caught or voted out.

Each player is designated a private role as a “crewmate” or “impostor.” ... Players can be voted off the ship, so each game becomes one of survival: Successfully vote off the impostors, or complete all your tasks to win
