The purpose of the “112 Latvija” app is to ensure that every user can quickly contact all emergency services simultaneously, so that the necessary assistance can be provided as quickly as possible, as well as to provide every app user with essential information.

Advantages

The “112 Latvija” app offers several advantages:

1. It allows users to initiate a call and send a structured text message (SMS) to the single emergency number 112:
1. 1. The option to send an SMS improves access to the single emergency number 112 for people with speech and hearing impairments, as well as for people using SIM cards issued by mobile network operators in other countries;
1. 2. An SMS created using the app’s functionality includes the coordinates of the location where assistance is required or the location of the SMS sender. Important! For this feature to work, location services must be enabled on the smart device.
2. It ensures that the emergency services are simultaneously informed about the incident and the assistance required.
3. It provides information on the appropriate actions to take in emergency situations and recommendations on how to avoid potentially dangerous incidents.
4. It allows users to obtain information about the shelters closest to their current location, as well as other shelters located throughout Latvia. Important! For the app to automatically determine the shelters closest to the user’s current location, location services must be enabled on the smart device.
5. It allows users to view current alerts distributed through the Cell Broadcast system when the system is activated.

Description

1. Red button with a white telephone handset and the digits 1 1 2 – an option to initiate a call to the single emergency number 112.
2. Red button with a white text message icon and the text “SMS 1 1 2” – an option to select from the available choices step by step and provide the required information to create a structured SMS, which can then be sent from the phone to inform the emergency services about an incident and the assistance required.
3. “Safety Tips” section – useful information on the appropriate actions to take in specific emergency or hazardous situations.
4. “News” section – the latest information from the emergency services. If a number, for example “1”, is displayed next to this section, it means that the Cell Broadcast system has been activated. Opening this section will also allow the user to view the current Cell Broadcast alert.
5. “Shelters” section – displays a map of Latvia showing the user’s current location, with a green circle indicating a 200-metre radius around it. The section also provides recommendations and additional information about shelters.
6. “Home” icon – an option to return to the app’s home screen.
7. “User Profile” icon – an option to view the user’s profile information and edit it if necessary.
