Fungipedia APP
The new version is fully integrated with the fungipedia.org website and features over 500 cataloged species with more than 2,500 photographs and over 1,500 micrographs.
This mushroom app allows you to create your own PRIVATE database of GEOREFERENCED mushroom patches on your phone. The application lets you save the location of mushroom patches of interest using your phone's GPS, grouping them by ZONES. This advanced GEOREFERENCING system not only allows you to save the location, but also lets you add photographs of the mushroom patch and includes a navigation system that will take you directly to the location the next time you visit the area.
Starting with version 3.0.0, you can also save points of interest (parking lots, license sales points, water sources, etc.) in the same way as mushroom patches. It also has a new feature that allows you to download maps so you don't have problems in areas without cell service, and another that allows you to save your car's location.
The application allows you to assign the mushroom patches you save to the species in the Fungal Catalog. However, if you want to georeference a species that is not included in the application, the program will allow you to create this new species. Future updates will add advanced features to facilitate the study of different fungal species for groups of mycologists.
Although it's ALWAYS essential to consult an expert before consuming any unfamiliar species, if you go mushroom hunting, the FUNGIPEDIA app will allow you to identify many of them directly in the field. This way, you won't collect unnecessary specimens, allowing them to continue fulfilling their essential roles in nature and preventing poisoning. For this purpose, you'll find a "Confusion" button for the most common edible mushrooms, which will show you the most dangerous fungi that are often confused with the edible species.
Also, starting with version 3.0.0, you can directly (provided there's a network connection) send us a photo of a species to the forum so we can help you identify it (you'll need to create an account at fungipedia.org).
NO INTERNET CONNECTION IN THE WILD
Don't worry! You only need an internet connection during the initial installation and the download of the image galleries, which happens after the app is installed. We also recommend testing GEOLOCATION for the first time in an area with coverage and with data enabled, so that the maps of your location are saved. However, if there is coverage in the mountain area where you are, it is advisable to keep data enabled, as this way it only takes a few seconds to locate a mushroom patch instead of several minutes, as happens in areas without coverage. This occurs because the GPS can download the exact location from the GPS satellites.
