Kanwar Yatra

In Bihar, one of the largest congregations of devotees takes place annually at Sultanganj for trekking to famous Lord Shiva Temple at Deoghar. Every year during the month of Shrawan (July – Aug.), lakhs of pilgrims undertake a pilgrimage from Sultanganj in the district of Bhagalpur to Deoghar in the district of Dumka (Jharkhand) for worship at the world famous Jyotirling temple of Lord Shiva. The distance from Sultanganj to Deoghar is 105 Km. and this journey is undertaken by devotees bare footed; the travel takes about 3 days. An approximate five million devotees undertake this pilgrimage every year
