Mau Mau – German card game

Mau-Mau as at the kitchen table: a seven makes the next player draw two – unless they play a seven too. An eight makes them sit out, the jack lets you wish for a suit, and forget to say "Mau" and you draw a penalty card. You play against the computer, offline too, and can stop whenever you like: the game saves itself. The app is in German.

✔ THE RULES AS GERMANY PLAYS THEM
Checked against 29 sources – German Wikipedia, the playing-card maker ASS Altenburger, rule sites and games magazines. The app lets you play only what the rules allow, and when a card does not fit, it says why.
• 7: the next player draws 2 – sevens can be passed on

✔ YOUR HOUSE RULES
Play it differently at home? Set it: 5, 6 or 7 cards, sevens not passed on, eight on eight, jack on jack, the jack only on its suit, no going out on a jack or a special card, the ace (sit out, play again or reverse), the nine reverses, no playing a drawn card at once, no "Mau-Mau", 1 or 2 penalty cards. ✔ PLAY FOR POINTS
If you like, play a match over several games: the cards left in hand count – jack 20, ace 11, king and queen 10, the rest their value. Whoever passes 100, 200 or 500 points has lost.

✔ GERMAN OR FRENCH SUITS
Clubs, spades, hearts and diamonds – or acorns, leaves, hearts and bells with Unter and Ober, as in Bavaria, Saxony and Austria.

✔ PROVABLY FAIR DEALS
Before you see a card, the app shows a code. After the game it reveals the key that the deal and every reshuffle were computed from: if the key matches the code, the cards were fixed before anyone saw them. The computer never sees your cards – it knows only its own hand and what is on the table. Your statistics show it too: over time everyone gets the same share of special cards.
