MBCompass is an open source compass app that combines accurate navigation, GPS track recording, GPX export, and offline maps for hiking, trekking, camping, cycling, and everyday outdoor adventures.
**COMPASS**
Sensor fusion: accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer working together, provides stable and accurate readings, even while you're moving.
Switch between Magnetic North and True North with a single tap.
Real-time magnetic field strength lets you know when nearby objects are causing interference, and an automatic accuracy warning alerts you when your compass needs recalibration.
**GPS TRACK RECORDING**
Hit record. Walk. Hike. Ride. MBCompass records your GPS track in real time and traces your route as a smooth polyline on an OpenStreetMap map.
Pause and resume tracking whenever you need. Recording continues in the background, even when your screen is locked.
Every track can be exported as a standard GPX file, making MBCompass a lightweight GPX recorder for hiking, trekking, cycling, running, and outdoor adventures.
When you're done, your track includes:
• Distance
• Duration
• Average speed
• Elevation gain and loss (when available)
• Minimum and maximum altitude
• Full elevation profile
Star your favorite routes and keep them organized. Open exported GPX files directly in Strava, Garmin Connect, OsmAnd, Komoot, and other GPX-compatible apps, no conversion required.
**OFFLINE MAPS**
Download any Mapsforge (.map) file from OpenAndroMaps, BBBike or any compatible source and use MBCompass completely offline. Perfect for hiking, trekking, camping, or traveling where internet access is unavailable.
Switch between online OpenStreetMap tiles and your offline map anytime from Settings.
**PRIVACY - AT ITS CORE**
No analytics SDK. No advertising network. No social features. No Google Play Services dependency.
Your GPS data is processed entirely on your device and stays there. Your app data never leaves your device unless you choose to export a GPX file.
MBCompass is free and open source software licensed under GPL v3, actively developed by the community. Community translations are available through Weblate.
