Strumhold: Chord Trainer

Strumhold is a chord trainer for one specific job: making your chord changes clean and fast.

You pick two chords. The metronome counts you in. You strum along, and your phone’s microphone scores every strum — did the right chord ring, and did it land on the beat? At the end you get an honest number: your success rate at that tempo. Get clean, push the tempo up, repeat.

WHAT IT DOES

• Mic-scored drills: the app listens and marks every strum a hit or a miss, so “am I getting better?” has an answer • Chord changes are the unit of practice, because the change between two chords is the skill that’s actually hard • Each chord pair keeps a tempo ceiling: the fastest tempo you’ve held clean, which only moves on real evidence • Strumming to a metronome, with a count-in, at the tempo you choose • Chord charts with fingerings for every shape you’re asked to play, so you never have to guess • Scale drills too: box patterns, one note per click, scored the same way • A daily practice queue that mixes what’s due for review with what you’re learning now • Practice history: drills per week, your streak, how long you can keep playing without stopping • A tuner and a calibration step so scoring works on your phone, your mic, your room

WHAT IT COSTS

Practicing is free. Drills, scoring, chord charts, scales, history: all of it, with no account, no ads, and no tracking. You install it and you practice.

There is one optional paid thing: syncing your practice history across devices, for people who practice on more than one. Everything you can do on one device is free, forever.

WHAT IT ISN’T

Strumhold doesn’t teach songs, and it isn’t a course. It’s the practice tool you use alongside whatever you’re learning from: a teacher, a book, videos. If your chord changes are the thing holding you back, this is the drill rig for exactly that.

The app uses the microphone only while you’re drilling, tuning, or calibrating, and the mic indicator on your phone shows exactly when. Audio is scored on your device and isn’t uploaded.
