THE LAST DREAM COLLECTOR GAME
You are the last person who can walk into a sleeper's dream and bring something
back out. What you do with it once you are holding it is the whole game.
FOUR VERBS, AND NO UNDO
Find the memory a sleeper lost, and then choose:
LEAVE IT — nothing changes. They keep the gap, you keep the fragment.
REMEMBER — the memory comes back whole. So does everything attached to it.
CHANGE — one event becomes another. Their life stops matching everyone else's.
FORGET — it is gone. They are lighter, and they are missing a piece.
There is no reload and no second attempt at a night. The town you walk out into
in the morning is the one your choice made.
WHAT YOU FIND IS WHAT YOU CAN SAY
Every memory you uncover in a dream becomes a move against the nightmare
guarding it. Speak a true one and the thing loses its grip. Speak the wrong
one — dreams plant lies, and only the Night Owl can tell you which is which —
and it gets stronger. Hold the memory a nightmare is actually made of and one
sentence ends the fight.
DREAD
Nothing in a dream is free. Every memory you take, every creature you bind,
every second you stand still — the dread goes up, and nothing brings it down.
Fill the bar and the dream closes over you with the memory still inside it.
That is not a game over. It is a fifth outcome, it is permanent, and in the
morning somebody is missing a piece nobody chose to take.
A TOWN THAT REMEMBERS
Six dreams. Thirty memories. Ten Dream Beasts, none of them caught — a beast
joins you by asking for something you are already carrying. Nineteen residents
who each live somewhere, work at something, and talk differently to you
depending on what you did to their neighbour's head. Five endings, and the one
you reach is counted, not chosen.
Every resident also has a piece of music. Change what they remember and their
theme changes with them — transposed, slowed, resolved or detuned. Nothing in
the game tells you this is happening.
Plays in portrait, one thumb. English and 简体中文, and the Chinese is its own
telling rather than a translation.
