Upmind is a mindfulness app that visualizes the state of the autonomic nervous system and allows you to practice the habit of having a blank space in your mind. In joint research with the University of Tokyo, we are working on development based on scientific verification.

How can we live a happier life?
Simply put, it's about how well we can create space in our minds. We believe the three most important habits for achieving this are:

1. Moderate Exercise
2. Adequate Sleep
3. Mindfulness

At Upmind, we develop apps to support these three habits (especially mindfulness) in the hope that they will help you create space in your mind and ultimately lead a happier life.

We recommend 30 minutes of exercise three times a week, at least 7 hours of sleep (the optimal amount varies by age), and 15 minutes of mindfulness daily. While this may be difficult at first, we offer a number of features, such as a 2-minute guided meditation, to make it easier to stick to even when you're busy. We encourage you to start by taking it easy and gradually deepening your habit.

Cherish inner peace, notice and appreciate the little joys, and live your life.
Why not start a habit of clearing your mind with the Upmind app?

In a joint study with the University of Tokyo (Ryu Takizawa Laboratory), we confirmed that practicing mindfulness meditation using the app improves sleep quality and productivity. We aim to create a reliable app with scientifically proven effectiveness.

◆Upmind Features
[Overview]
Upmind features include a "Measurement" function that understands the state of your autonomic nervous system and recommends actions to improve it; a "Tuning" function that allows you to practice mindfulness practices such as meditation and yoga; a "Deep Sleep" function to help you fall asleep; a "Learn" function that allows you to view medical information to improve autonomic nervous system balance; and a "Data" function that allows you to view measurement results over time and view statistical information.

[Autonomic Nervous System Balance Measurement]
Start measurement by clicking the + button at the bottom of the home screen. Place your finger on your smartphone's camera to measure heart rate fluctuations. Using heart rate variability analysis technology, the app measures your heart rate fluctuations to determine the balance of your sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic nervous system. It compares your average score with your own and displays a score from 0 to 100 (use this as a reference for determining whether you have mental space). Depending on your score, the app will provide advice on how to improve your autonomic nervous system balance.

[Practicing Mindfulness]
・Meditation
Under the supervision of Masao Yoshida, Representative Director of the Mindfulness Meditation Association, we offer a variety of meditation programs. Incorporate meditation into your daily life and develop the habit of balancing your autonomic nervous system with the app. Numerous easy, two-minute meditations are also included, allowing you to calm your mind even during busy times or at work.

Your First 7 Days
5 Minutes Every Day

Meditation at Work
Meditation to Nurture the Mind
Meditation to Reduce Tension, and more.

・Yoga
Under the supervision of yoga instructor Yurika Umezawa, we offer guided stretching and yoga videos. Incorporating physical activity into your daily routine can also help you achieve better mental balance. You can even incorporate two-minute programs to relieve shoulder stiffness and back pain during your work breaks.

Waking Up

Before Bed
Starting Your Day
Appreciating Your Day, etc.

Music
We offer a wide selection of music in four genres: waking up, before bed, concentration, and relaxation. Listening to music that suits your mood will help you spend your day comfortably.

[Sleep Support]
To create a space in your mind, it's crucial not only to organize your day, but also to get quality sleep and rest your mind (brain). We offer a wide range of content to support good sleep. We offer a variety of content to help you fall asleep while relaxing, including storytimes narrated by former NHK newscaster Riko Shimanaga and calming music to listen to late at night. Listen to these while lying in bed or on your futon for a restful night's sleep.

[Information for Improving Autonomic Nervous System Balance]
In addition to the content above, we also offer a wealth of medical information to incorporate into your autonomic nervous system balance habits. Simply understanding how stress works can help you deal with it better. Why not learn more and apply it to your daily life?

[Data Accumulation]
Measured data (autonomic nervous system score, heart rate variability, heart rate) is accumulated within the app. Based on this accumulated data, measurement scores and suggested actions are optimized for you.

[Integration with the Health App]
This app can be optionally linked with Google's Health Connect app. By linking, you can accumulate activity information such as measured heart rate and meditation practice in the Health Connect app. You can also allow the app to read information such as step count and sleep, allowing you to check within the app whether you are experiencing lack of exercise, sleep, or stress.

◆ About the Joint Research with the University of Tokyo
In pursuit of a scientifically validated and more reliable service, we have been conducting joint research with the Ryu Takizawa Laboratory (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Education, The University of Tokyo) since April 1, 2022, to improve the effectiveness of preventing and recovering from mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, and insomnia). In addition to incorporating specialized knowledge into development, we aim to create a reliable app with scientifically proven effectiveness.

Previous research has confirmed that habitually practicing mindfulness meditation using the app (on average, 4-5 times per week) significantly improves work productivity by approximately 17% (absolute presenteeism) and sleep quality (insomnia level) by approximately 19% (the latter was also accepted by the international peer-reviewed academic journal "BMC Digital Health").

◆ About Donations to Save the Children
For every meditation you perform on Upmind, 0.5 yen will be donated to Save the Children, an international NGO active in approximately 120 countries worldwide, to support children in difficult situations both domestically and around the world. Founded in 1919, Save the Children has been supporting children in a wide range of areas, including health and nutrition, including the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and infectious diseases, as well as humanitarian aid and education, for nearly 100 years, with the aim of realizing a world where "children's rights" are realized. When I meditate, I often find peace of mind, as well as the hope that the world will become a safer place for everyone. I hope that through this activity, more children who will support the next generation will be saved.
