Family Tree APP
Adding someone takes seconds. Give them a name, a birth date, a living or deceased status and any notes worth keeping, then link them as a parent, spouse or child. Put a face to the name by choosing a photo from your gallery and cropping it to fit. Dates you are unsure of can be recorded as about, before or after a year, so a half-remembered decade never has to be typed as a fact.
Every person can hold a life story — school, a first job, a marriage, a move — laid out on a timeline, and a photo album where you can tag the faces with people already in your tree, so a group photograph from 1994 finally says who everyone is.
Choose how you want to look at it all. Focus shows one person with their parents, siblings and children. Tree is the canvas you can pan and zoom, with a generation rail, a minimap and a button that fits everyone on screen. Outline is an indented list, and often the quickest way to find somebody. When you are not sure how two people are connected, the app works it out and names the relationship — in English, or with Indian kinship terms like tau ji, chacha and bua if those are the words your family actually uses.
Birthday reminders arrive on the morning itself, worked out on your device from dates you already entered.
It works wherever you are. You can add and edit people with no signal at all: changes are saved on your device and sync automatically the moment you are back online, and the app tells you when edits are still waiting to sync. Nothing is lost on a train, in a basement, or in an archive reading room.
Your family tree is private, and that is the point. Everything you add is stored in a space locked to your Google account and enforced by security rules, so no other user of this app can see your family. There is no public profile, no feed and no sharing to strangers. Your family's names, dates and photos are never sold and never used for advertising.
You can go further and turn on encryption. Notes, exact dates, birth times, life stories and photographs are then locked on your device with a passphrase only you hold, and opened again with your fingerprint. We cannot read them, and we say plainly which parts stay readable to us: names, years, and how people are related. You are given a recovery code at setup. If both are lost, nothing anyone holds can open those details again, so the app tells you exactly which ones they were and lets you write them in afresh.
Signing in with Google means no extra password to remember, and we never see your Google password. Your tree is backed up to your own account, so losing a phone does not mean losing your family history.
You stay in control of all of it. Remove a single person and their photo whenever you like, save or share any photograph back out to your phone, or delete your entire account and every piece of data you have added — from Settings inside the app or from the website, at any time.
The app itself is quiet and warm: a Material 3 design in natural colours, with a dark or light theme, or one that simply follows your system setting. It reads in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian and Arabic.
Most family history lives in half-remembered stories, scattered notes and spreadsheets nobody opens. Family Tree is a small, focused app for keeping it in one place: accurate, private, and pleasant to look at.
