Gambit: Offline Chess GAME
Gambit runs a complete chess engine on your device. The rules, the notation and the AI are all computed locally — no account, no server, no connection. Open it on a plane and it plays exactly the same.
SEVEN OPPONENTS WITH A FACE AND A TEMPERAMENT
A difficulty level here is a person. Milo memorised one opening last night and plays it whether it fits the position or not. Nina castles, closes ranks and waits for your mistake. Rafael comes straight at your king.
They sit across the board from you. Their expression follows the position, and they talk — a jab when you drop a piece, a word when the game turns.
Strength decides how deep the engine calculates. Style decides which move it reaches for out of the ones it already judged good. So Oscar and Nina are both 1300, and playing them feels nothing alike.
• Milo Brandt — Club Student — 700 Elo
• Vera Lindqvist — Tactics Hunter — 1000 Elo
• Oscar Halden — Position Architect — 1300 Elo
• Nina Vogel — Patient Wall — 1300 Elo
• Rafael Costa — Kingside Storm — 1600 Elo
• Elena Marchetti — The Master — 1900 Elo
• Bianca Marchetti — The Maestro — 2200 Elo
STORY MODE: PLAY THEM FOR THEIR BOARD
Seven chapters, one ladder. Everyone at the club brought their own board and their own set — Oscar's Parthenon marble, Nina's forest floor, Rafael's cooled lava, Bianca's shell and pearl off the sea bed.
Two wins clears a chapter and the set is yours for good. Two losses ends the run — but nothing you have already won is ever taken back.
EVERY RULE, NOT MOST OF THEM
Castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate, stalemate, the fifty-move rule, threefold repetition and insufficient material. All of it, correctly.
WAYS TO PLAY
• Vs CPU — six strengths, from Beginner to Maestro
• Story Mode — the seven-chapter ladder
• 2 Players on this device — pass and play, with a board-flip button
• CPU vs CPU — sit back and watch
WHILE YOU PLAY
• Evaluation bar — the engine's read on who stands better
• Move review — ?! / ? / ?? marks on your own moves
• Hints and take-backs
• Chess clocks — Bullet, Blitz, Rapid and Classical, with Fischer increment
• SAN move history, PGN export, PGN and FEN import
• Step through a finished game move by move, or tap any move to jump there
• Four board themes: Glass Night, Classic Wood, Neon Cyber, Minimal
• Statistics — your record per character, current streak, and the highest Elo you have ever beaten
• Two languages: English and Bahasa Indonesia
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
No account. No login. No move ever leaves your device — the engine is right there in the app. Your record and your settings stay on the phone.
Gambit is free and carries ads. Banners sit on the menu screens only, never on the board. Full-screen ads appear between games, not during one. Rewarded ads are always something you choose to watch — extra hints, extra take-backs, or a board theme unlocked for good — and never something the game makes you sit through.
