Gardion Kids: Child Device

WHAT YOUR CHILD SEES

The home screen shows how much time is left today. When the limit runs out or bedtime starts, a lock screen appears. On it your child can stretch in front of the camera: it recognises movement, and the frames are processed on the device and never leave it.

The SOS button sends the parent an alert with coordinates. From the app your child can message the parent and see the tasks that earn stars.

WHAT THE PARENT SETS

The daily limit and per-app limits, the lock schedule, the list of blocked websites, school mode and geofences. All of it is set from the parent's phone.

WHILE THE DEVICE IS LOCKED

The phone is still a phone. Calls to parents and emergency services, contacts and the SOS button keep working after the daily limit runs out. The parent can allow learning apps separately during lessons.

HOW IT IS SET UP

The parent installs the app on the child's device and links it with a code from their own Gardion app. Android asks for permissions one at a time; the wizard walks through them in order and explains what each one is for. This is done once. Limits and schedules are changed from the parent's phone afterwards.

TRANSPARENT MONITORING

Gardion Kids is never hidden. It has a unique app icon, displays a persistent notification while protection is active, and before activation it lists the data the parent will receive and asks for explicit consent. The parent sees apps used, screen time, the addresses of opened pages, and location.

The app uses Android AccessibilityService to identify the foreground app and website address in supported browsers, enforce parent-defined limits, and return the child to the Gardion screen when a blocked app is opened. It does not log keystrokes or read messages.

Gardion Kids uses Android VpnService for website filtering. It is a local VPN: it runs on the device itself and does not route traffic to a remote VPN server, ours or anyone else's. Only DNS lookups pass through it. When the parent has blocked a site, Gardion Kids answers that the address does not exist, so the page does not open in a browser or in any other app. All other DNS lookups go to Cloudflare's public DNS resolver, and the rest of the traffic bypasses the VPN. The VPN itself does not log or upload these lookups.

Device administrator rights are required so that the app cannot be removed behind the parent's back. Protection can be lifted from the parent's dashboard. If the phone has no connection, the parent uses an emergency code that their own app shows them.

WHAT THE APP DOES NOT DO

It does not read messages in messengers. It does not turn on the microphone. It does not stream your child's screen: a screenshot is taken at the parent's request and the child confirms it through an Android system dialog. There are no ads.

The app is meant for a minor child's device and is set up by their parent or legal guardian. It must not be used to monitor spouses, other adults, or unrelated people.
