PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine

PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine is the companion radio driver engine for PocketCHIRP 2.0 and later.

This app provides the CHIRP runtime and radio drivers used by PocketCHIRP to communicate with supported radios.

IMPORTANT:
This is a companion component for PocketCHIRP. It is not the main PocketCHIRP radio programming application.

WHAT THIS APP PROVIDES

• CHIRP radio driver runtime
• Support for the radio drivers used by PocketCHIRP
• Local communication with the PocketCHIRP app
• A separately distributed CHIRP engine for PocketCHIRP 2.x

NO CONFIGURATION REQUIRED

There are no radio programming settings to configure in the CHIRP Engine itself. Radio selection, memories, settings, USB and Bluetooth connections, radio programming, and other user features are handled through the main PocketCHIRP application.

WHY IS THIS A SEPARATE APP?

PocketCHIRP 2.x separates the PocketCHIRP Android application from the CHIRP runtime.

The PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine contains the GPL-licensed CHIRP components and radio drivers, while the main PocketCHIRP application provides the PocketCHIRP user interface and Android radio-programming experience.

This separation provides a clear boundary between PocketCHIRP and the open-source CHIRP runtime it uses.

PocketCHIRP CHIRP Engine is intended to be installed alongside PocketCHIRP.

CHIRP is an open-source amateur radio programming project. PocketCHIRP is an independent application and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CHIRP project.
