TrueWorld Maps: Country Facts APP
TrueWorld Maps shows the true size of countries on an accurate world map. Press and hold a country, drag it anywhere and watch it grow or shrink as it moves toward or away from the equator. You'll see straight away the real size of countries and how much a flat map gets wrong.
WHY FLAT MAPS GET SIZES WRONG
The Earth is round, and no flat map can show it without stretching something. Only a globe gets every size right. The Mercator projection behind most maps stretches land more and more the further it is from the equator, so Russia looks bigger than Africa, Canada looks bigger than the United States, China and Brazil put together, and Greenland looks bigger than South America. Drop them next to each other in the app and you'll see by how much.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Drag any country across the world map and compare it with another
• Compare countries side by side, several at once
• See the area in square kilometres or square miles
• See the population of every country next to its area
• Explore all the countries of the world, plus islands, territories and the US states
• Search by name and go straight there
• Read a short summary of each place, with its flag, area and population
FOR SCHOOL
Teachers use TrueWorld Maps to explain map projection and scale, and students use it for homework and projects. Country facts and size comparisons work without an internet connection.
HOW THE COMPARISON STAYS CORRECT
When you move a country, the app redraws its shape for the new position on the Earth's surface, so the comparison is right wherever you drop it. Areas and populations come from public reference data.
COMPARISONS TO TRY
Brazil and Australia are closer in size than you'd think. India looks smaller than Greenland but is actually bigger. China, the United States, India and most of Europe fit inside Africa together. Try Russia and Africa, or your own country and the one next door. Any country size comparison takes a few seconds.
OFFLINE
The offline world map works with no connection at all, at world and continent zoom. Detailed offline maps, which let you zoom in much closer, come with the Pro subscription.
TrueWorld Maps is a true size map of the world, a pocket atlas for anyone curious about geography, and a quick way to check a country fact when you need one.
