Ophelia - Read & Write Stories

Ophelia brings reading, writing, publishing and literary community into one app.

Read public-domain classics, import your own books, discover new writers, or build a complete book from your phone. Ophelia is designed for readers who want more from reading and writers who want more than a blank page.

READ BOOKS

• Explore public-domain classics through Project Gutenberg, Open Library and the Internet Archive.
• Import EPUB, Word, PDF, Markdown and text files.
• Bring photographed pages and scanned PDFs into the reader with on-device text recognition for Latin and Devanagari.
• Read online or take downloaded books offline.
• Choose Scroll or Paged reading, adjust type size, line height, margins and alignment, and use drop caps and styled chapter openings.
• Keep highlights, notes and bookmarks in the Vault.

LEARN WHILE YOU READ

• Tap a word for dictionary definitions, pronunciation, Wikipedia and translation into supported languages.
• Save words to the Lexicon and review them with flashcards.
• Open the Grimoire for a book-wide view of marks, characters, vocabulary and passages.
• Listen with your phone's built-in voices across 63 languages, with follow-along highlighting, page turning, translation while reading and a sleep timer.

• Work offline with automatic saving, versions, private notes, word goals and writing streaks.
• Build books with title pages, contents, copyright pages, dedications, epigraphs, chapters, scenes and back matter.
• Choose from 36 painted cover designs or use your own cover.
• Export to EPUB 3, print-ready PDF, Word manuscript, Markdown or plain text.

PUBLISH AND DISCOVER

• Follow writers, react to chapters, join discussions, create reading lists, enter contests and take part in groups.
• Read community stories offline and keep up with new chapters.

THREE WORLDS

Ophelia's reading experience is shaped by three hand-painted worlds. Each world changes the palette, typography, paper, icons, backdrop and atmosphere across the app.

• Lily, Rue and Ingenious
• Royal, Malice and Silas
• Grace, Rogue and Daemon

LIVING PAPER

Read on a library of 900 generated paper sheets designed to feel tactile without sacrificing readability. Choose Quiet, Living, Chosen or Plain paper styles. Accessibility options include high contrast, a minimum text size and a readability-first typeface.

A FAIRER BOOK ECONOMY

Readers can use Oph to unlock complete books published by community writers. Writers set the price of their books and the number of free chapters, while readers keep an unlocked book across devices. Ophelia's writer payout system is being prepared and is not yet live.

OPTIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Reader features remain available without membership. Premium and Premium Plus memberships open additional worlds and other membership content.

PRIVACY AND SAFETY

• No ads.
• No account is required just to read.
• Community content is moderated, with reporting and blocking tools.
• Mature community content is restricted to signed-in adults who opt in.
• Account users can download their data and request account deletion.

BUILT FOR READERS AND WRITERS

Whether you are returning to a classic, studying a difficult passage, listening to a book, writing a poem, formatting a novel or discovering an independent author, Ophelia keeps the literary parts of your life together in one place.
