The Reina-Valera 1960 Bible (RVR1960) is the most popular and widely read Spanish translation in the Protestant and Evangelical Christian world. It comprises a total of 66 books: 39 from the Old Testament and 27 from the New Testament.
It stands out for its perfect balance between fidelity to the ancient texts and Hispanic literary tradition. The 1960 version is an official revision published by the United Bible Societies, based on the original translation by Casiodoro de Reina (1569, "The Bear Bible")
and the later revision by Cipriano de Valera (1602, "The Pitcher Bible"), which in turn was based on the Hebrew Masoretic Text for the Old Testament and the Greek Textus Receptus (Received Text) for the New Testament.
It maintains the reverent, classical tone and traditional poetic structure, but is more accessible thanks to updated spelling and grammar from previous editions.
