♠ HOW TO PLAY SPADES
Spades is a 4-player partnership card game. You play with your partner sitting across the table against the opposing team of two.
• Deal: Every player gets 13 cards from a standard 52-card deck.
• Bid: Each player bids how many tricks they expect to win, from 0 to 13. You and your partner's bids combine into your team's contract.
• Play: Follow the suit that was led if you can. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, unless someone plays a spade. Spades are always trump.
• Breaking spades: You cannot lead a spade until spades have been broken (a spade played on another suit), unless spades are all you have left.
• Score: Make your contract to earn 10 points for every trick bid, plus 1 point for every extra trick (bag). Fall short and your team loses 10 points for every trick bid.
• Win: The first team to reach the target score wins the game. Drop to -200 and your team loses.

♠ NIL AND BLIND NIL
Feeling brave? Bid Nil and promise to win zero tricks for a +100 bonus, but take even one trick and it costs you 100 points. Turn on Blind Nil to bid Nil before you see your cards for a +200 / -200 swing. Protecting your partner's Nil, or breaking the opponents' Nil, is where the real strategy happens.

• Count your sure winners before you bid: Aces, protected Kings and long spades.
• Play low when your partner is already winning the trick.
• Empty a suit early so you can trump in with a spade later.
• Balance your bid: miss your contract and you get set, bid too low and you leave points on the table.
• Keep track of which spades have fallen to know when your high cards are safe.
