ZoneSprout - US Garden Planner APP

ZoneSprout answers one question: what can I plant, and when, where I actually live.

Tell it your state and ZIP code once. Every date in the app is then worked out from your USDA hardiness zone and your local frost dates — not copied from a calendar written for somewhere else.

WHAT IS IN IT

• Planting charts for your zone and your state. Start indoors, transplant, direct sow, bloom, harvest and prune windows, drawn across the year so you can see the whole season at once.

• Native plants for your state — the things that grew there before anyone planted them, and that the local insects and birds already know.

• Filters that match how a garden actually works. Start with the light you have — shade, part shade or full sun — then narrow by flowering, evergreen, comes back each year, native, good for pollinators, fragrant, edible, or happy in a pot. They stack, so "native shade plants that flower" is three taps.

• Collections for where you are: perennials that genuinely come back in your zone, and privacy hedges that do not die back every winter.

• A Garden Bed Planner. Lay out a bed square by square, plan your seed trays, keep a journal of what you planted with photos, and open the app to see what is worth doing this week.

WHY THE DATES DIFFER FROM OTHER APPS

Because they are not the same dates. A tomato is sown at a different time in zone 5a and zone 9b, and most planting guides quietly pick one and hope. Two gardens can share a hardiness zone and share almost nothing else — 9a in Georgia is humid and thunderstormy, 9a on the Oregon coast is cool and wet — so the state matters as much as the zone, and both go into every date.

The frost dates every calculation rests on are shown in Settings, so you can check the working rather than being asked to trust it.

Every zone from 1a to 13b. All fifty states and DC.

AN ACCOUNT AND A SUBSCRIPTION

ZoneSprout is free to download and asks you to create an account when you open it, because your beds, journal and photos belong to the account rather than to one phone — sign in on another device and your garden is already there.

Everything then opens with ZoneSprout Pro, which starts with a 7-day free trial. After the trial it is $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. You are not charged during the trial, and cancelling any time before it ends costs nothing. Subscriptions are billed through Google Play and can be cancelled from Play Store → Subscriptions.

Cancelling never deletes a bed, a planting or a photo. It only locks the planner until you come back.

FOR GARDENS IN THE UNITED STATES

Every planting date here is calculated from US frost records, US heat history and USDA hardiness zones. If you garden outside the United States, this app cannot give you accurate dates, and we would rather say so here than take your money.
