Freshy: Replacement Reminder

Freshy is a small app for a small, nagging problem: the things in your home that wear out without telling you.

Take the water filter. It keeps pouring long after it has stopped filtering anything. Or the toothbrush head, the sponge by the sink, the smoke alarm battery that picks three in the morning to start chirping. None of them has a warning light, so they get swapped late, or swapped early just in case, with half their life thrown away.

You add the things you want to keep an eye on. Freshy already knows a sensible cycle for more than 25 common ones, from razor blades and contact lenses to fridge filters, pillows and the cabin filter in your car. Tell it whether something sees light, normal or heavy use and the countdown stretches or shortens to fit, because a sponge in a family kitchen does not last as long as one in a studio.

A few days before something is due you get a nudge, early enough to order a replacement. You pick how early. Quiet hours keep the night silent, and on Monday there is a short look at the week ahead. When you swap something, you log it and the count starts again.

The home screen comes down to one number. The Freshness Score is the average remaining life of everything you track, from 0 to 100, and it climbs the moment you log a replacement. Items can live under the rooms you actually have, and the list filters by what is due, what is coming up and what is still fine.

There is a quieter benefit too. Replacing on time, rather than too early or far too late, keeps some plastic, CO2 and water out of the bin. Freshy estimates how much, keeps your streak of on time swaps and remembers every swap you have made.
