Odd Groupings Metronome APP
Most metronomes only click. This one builds the phrase on the accents, can hold a keys chord through the bar, and lets you mix groupings or meters when you want to. It is a practice tool made by a player, for players.
WHAT YOU PRACTICE
• Groupings of 3, 5, 6 and 7. Grouping 4 is for triplets and tuplets, where it is not just the beat.
• Subdivisions from eighths to sixteenth triplets, plus quintuplets and septuplets.
• Choose where the first accent falls inside the beat. Swing on a straight grid.
• Mixed grouping: combine 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 across the bar, with auto-fill so the bar completes.
• Accent clusters, and accent patterns such as 2+3 or 2+2+3.
• Mixed meters: 3/4, 4/4, 5/4 and 7/4, one bar or a longer form.
• Table of Time: a different subdivision per bar, per two beats, or per beat.
WHAT YOU HEAR
• A melody on the accents, in five moods (happy, melancholic, epic, aggressive, rock) and any key.
• Chord cycles: i · iv · v · i, i · VI · VII, ii · V · i, or the circle of 5ths. A short form keeps walking. A longer form stays as written.
• A keys chord through the bar, and a key walk (I, IV, V, I). V sits a fourth down. The chord cycle waits while the walk is on.
• Bass, mid and treble registers for the accents, the passing notes and the keys chord.
• Timbres: woodblock, bell, marimba, synth, tom, conga, snare.
• Metronome sounds: click, woodblock, cowbell, clave, rimshot, hi-hat.
• Separate volume for accents, passing notes, the keys chord, the metronome and the whole app. Passing-note density sets how many of the other steps sound.
HOW YOU PRACTICE
• Gap metronome: click for some bars, then none, and you keep the time.
• Call and response: hear the melody for a few bars, then play it back against the click.
• Speed trainer: raise the tempo after a few minutes or bars, up to a target, then stop.
• Sticking under the score: alternate, accent right, paradiddle, double stroke and the close variants.
• Presets saved on the device, a code you can share, and a routine that plays several presets in a row.
• Study view: score and transport only.
• Five skins: Forest, Night, Daylight, Blue, and Blue dark. The choice stays on the phone.
• Practice calendar: minutes for this week. Older days, and the best tempo of each grouping, stay on the phone too.
• Count-in of one or two bars. Stop after a set number of bars or minutes.
• The screen stays on, with an optional flash on the accents.
• Play, stop and tempo from a Bluetooth pedal or page-turner.

HOW TO USE
- Start with grouping 3 at a slow tempo. Leave the count-in on so you enter in time.
- Follow the accents with your sticking. Let the passing notes fill the space.
- Try each Start on position, to feel how the grouping sits inside the beat.
- When 3 feels natural, move to 5 and 7, then to mixed grouping.
- Use the speed trainer for a slow rise, or a routine when you want several presets in one sitting.
- Open Calendar to see the minutes. Skins are under Settings.
